Bring Me Back Home
![Picture](/uploads/1/2/1/4/12143640/30492.jpg?245)
Chilled buckwheat noodles
drenched in wasabi and ice
brings me back
home
wandering
streets
endlessly
eating hot chili rice cakes for 50 cents
with extra fish cake
sun beaming
my face full of
smiles
sweat
down my back
skin sticky like
honey
brows scrunched
concentration
as I spin tops
to the chants of
jumprope and double dutch
echoing
bouncing
in my ears
kids with
dirt trodden sneakers
gawk down upon the
game
betting
all their money's worth
25 cents
being the usual
soon coins slap into my hands
as cheers erupt
across the street
the beaten face
would be etched in
my memory
forever
reminiscing
the sweet victory
I shake
hands
buying everyone
a favorite
hot chili rice cakes
for 50 cents
with extra fish cake
everyone
celebrates
delight in the air
the summer sky
swirling with
tints of pink
to match the
mood
even the boy
whose frown
has turned into
a mouthful of missing teeth
smiles
I try to reach
home
but
still in
a dining room
with an
air conditioner
blaring overhead
eating
chilled buckwheat noodles
drenched in wasabi and ice
drenched in wasabi and ice
brings me back
home
wandering
streets
endlessly
eating hot chili rice cakes for 50 cents
with extra fish cake
sun beaming

Poetry Explanation
This poem is about my childhood back in Korea. I ate a lot of Korean cuisine and "street food" such as hot chili rice cakes. Also, back in Korea, my mom often made these Buckwheat noodles drenched in wasabi, called naeng- myeung. This triggered a lot of memories on spinning tops, now called Beyblades or whatever in America, and eating street food cheap as fifty cents. I became homesick just thinking of these memories, and I was inspired to write this poem, based on them.
Poetry Literary Explanation
Auditory Imagery- I used a lot of imagery in this poem. I used auditory imagery when I said the chants of jumprope bounced and echoed in my ear and cheering. I could clearly remember the chants, and the excitement and cheers in the streets over a gamble of tops.
Visual Imagery- I used visual imagery as well to describe the sky with its "swirling pink" and the kids with their "dirt trodden sneakers".
Repitition- I also used repitition. I repeated the description of korean cuisine of naeng myung, or buckwheat noodles and chili rice cakes to bring a hint of Korea, my homeland.
Metaphor- I also used metaphors such as "skin sticky as honey" to describe the air. It was summer as spinning tops were well played in hot weather.
